Kenya

brief history

The GTP – K started in 2000 with two schools participating in the learning circles and the number grew subsequently in the following years. Between 2003 – 2004, it became more focussed and the main objective was to train teachers to develop their own teaching materials using ICT and also assist the disadvantaged schools with computers. To achieve this objective the following were done;

? Targeted teacher training which saw over fifty teachers trained on basic computer applications and multi media
? Networking with other initiatives such as the Learning Resource Centre supported by the VVOB
? Effective participation in the Learning Circles
? An award scheme that saw four good performing schools benefiting from Computer donations

To this end, the has project received a lot of support from the Ministry of Education – Directorate of Quality Assurance and at a function to launch a SchoolNet project, the Minister for Education specifically acknowledged the contribution GTP in the development of the country’s education.

Currently, four classes registered in the September – December Learning Circles. it is envisaged that the enrolment will be higher in the coming circles due to the partnerships that is currently developed by other like minded initiatives such as IEARN and PEMA education.
